Your Cerner-Millennium EMR's 6 Super Powers

During the initial implementation phase of a new EMR, keeping workflows simple and avoiding complex configurations is a good approach because of two main reasons:

  • It makes projects more likely to finish on time, within budget, in scope, and with quality.
  • It makes the system easier to maintain.

However, once clients take ownership of their Cerner-Millennium EMR after go-live, a world of customization opens. Clients become more capable of adding beneficial functionalities to their workflows. Following are six examples of advanced customizations:

  • Pre-processing script to adjust order details when placing an order.
  • EKM Rules using HTML, CCL scripts, and Substitution values.
  • Custom CCL & HTML Patient Lists and Views in PowerChart, FirstNet, and SurgiNet.
  • Dynamic Documentation custom fields.
  • Custom PMOffice worklists and Rules for Conversations.
  • Adding columns to Request Lists in Scheduling.

I add value to my clients' workflows by developing the above functionalities. I have been doing so for almost two decades. Whenever I hear someone say something is impossible in Millennium, I get fired up and take it on as a personal challenge to prove them wrong. I always find a way - well, almost always ;-).
